After all course requirements are met, the student receives a bachelor’s diploma upon commencement. The commonplace authorities-issued school curriculum is often famous as rigorous, with as many as 16 or so subjects. Most students select to also attend privately run profit-making institutes often known as hagwon (학원) to spice up their educational performance. Core topics include Korean, English and mathematics, with adequate emphasis on social and bodily science subjects. Students don’t usually ask questions in the classroom, but choose to memorise details.
